Icky expected this to be an easy victory against Drew Baigent. Team Martin was also graced by the presence of fan iszy (aka grandpa martin) who waved pompoms (a scarf) and did the wave with Elana and Aidan (who still sucks). Icky guaranteed a victory for iszy. Afterall, iszy deserved to experience a win this week after curling really crappily for the last 5 games.
End 1: Without hammer, Drew played a draw through a port to the 8-foot almost fully buried against 2 martin stones with his first. Icky's last was an attempted control weight takeout through the same port. He squeezes perfectly by the guard and makes perfect contact to sit 3. The shot was really pretty but no pics this time (too tired to draw). Drew tried the same shot but wrecked. Martin leads 3-0.
End 2: Team Baigent flukes out shot rock and buried. Icky attempts a wide double-raise-nudge-spill in type shot that actually ended up moving a Baigent rock in as second shot. Icky almost made the shot but needed the rock to curl 2 more inches or so and he didn't even think of the possibility of knocking in a Baigent stone. Drew draws for 3 successfully.
End 3: Team Martin takes control of the game on this end. Icky plays a perfect draw to bite the 12, preventing Drew from drawing around a centre guard or hitting and rolling behind if icky's rock came in any deeper. Sitting 3, Drew attempts a wide hit that flashes, leaving icky with an open draw to anywhere for the 4. The sweepers put it right on the teeline for a 7-3 lead.
End 4: Team Martin steals 1 for an 8-3 lead.
End 5: Team Baigent flukes another rock in as shot. Icky's attempted double fails, leaving Drew a draw for 2. He crashed on a guard to take 1.
End 6: Team Martin starts to play sloppy with missed hits by both tricky and shang. Icky hits shot rock to sit 1 with 3 Baigent stones still in the rings. Drew flashes his final hit, leaving icky a draw down to his own for the deuce. Nice weight to take a 10-4 lead.
End 7: Icky on his final could either hit the open Baigent rock and leave Drew a draw for 2 or play the funner runback to sit 1. With a 6 point lead, he opts for the runback, thinking up 3 with hammer is pretty much insurmountable anyways. he misses and Drew makes full use of backing to take 3 and close the gap to 3.
End 8: Hits continue to be missed by tricky and shang. With 2 Baigent and 1 Martin stone in the house, icky attempts to hit a Baigent stone to run them out of rocks. He misses way inside and flashes. Baigent tries to hit and stick on his last to sit 3 but rolls out. This leaves icky a free draw to the 8-foot with the win already in the bag. For the first time all game, he missed a draw with 1 foot too much weight.
Team Martin wins to go to 3-2 and stay as D3 for the 3rd draw. Team Martin is plotting their strategy for the playoff draw and would like to remain in the lowest division so they would be the top ranked team in the playoff bracket to make it easier to win prizes. Team Martin mens will likely exploit the same strategy, trying to stay in the B3-B6 group after the final draw to get into that playoff grouping.
