Team Martin was up against Team Ritchie today in the clash of the young teams. After defeating super skip from Tuesday Mixed with a 13-1 reocrd, Chris McHugh (Aidan's vice), at the Soap Spiel, icky was eager to be the first to beat him twice this season. Meanwhile, ix3y was eager to play against his former coach Aidan. With Iszy away at the theatre, tricky was called in to throw lead stones.
End 1: After losing hammer, a lot of rocks ended up in play in the house. Icky's final shot was a guard which blocked the draw for 2, so Aiden resorted to the hit and roll. Good contact leaves Team Ritchie sitting 2.
End 2: After Aidan comes deep with his first trying to guard his one stone in the house, icky makes a double and sticks around. Aidan's nose hit on icky's biter left a free throw-through. Blanked!
End 3: Icky is convinced the out-turn away from the lounge was falling like mad. Ikey missed his open hit and then icky missed both his outside, despite a clean release and the appearance of being close to the broom. Ritchie steals 2 to lead by 4.
End 4: Sitting 2, Aidan hits and sticks through the port to sit 1. Icky's last rock was the same hit through the port. After an "oh shit" slide which Aidan thought was the ugliest slide ever, icky adjusts the rock online and makes the perfect hit to take 2.
End 5: Team Martin steals 3 as a result of missed takeouts on the out-turn side away from the lounge by Team Ritchie. More evidence that there was fall on that side. Martin leads by 1.
End 6: Icky misses his first takeout (again out-turn but toward the lounge). Icky's final attempt at a double doesn't curl up, leaving Aidan an open draw for 2. Success. Ritchie leads by 6-5.
End 7: After we spent the entire end guarding a rock on the back of the button, icky is left with a free draw to the full 12-foot for the deuce. An unfortunate pick leaves Team Martin with 1 and a tie game.
End 8: Team Martin is successful at getting some guards in play, although Ritchie had shot rock in the top 12. On icky's first, he faces the following situation.

Icky had 3 options: 1. draw behind the corner guard by going through the port between the Ritchie rock in the top 12 and the guard 2. tap the Ritchie stone in the top 12 back and then hope to have a chance at the freeze with his last or a raise on the shooter 3. play another guard, hope for a missed takeout, and then draw around to sit shot. Option 3 would rely on a flashed peel or a nose hit which seemed unlikely. Thus icky would be then forced to do the same shot as option 1 with final rock anyways. Option 2 was a bit more tempting but required a lot of precision. the rock had to be raised with precise weight and line or else it would leave icky with not many good spots to put his last rock. Thus, icky chose the first option, feeling it was his best chance at the steal and relied least on Ritchie misses. After a clean release, the rock curls up just enough to make the port and sit just in front of the teeline. Aidan tries to hit the stone through the port but peels off his rock in the top 12 instead. Icky's last was an attempted guard tight to the rings or even top 12 that partially guarded the shot stone he threw on his first and partially guarded the draw to the 4-foot for Aidan. Not perfect, but not bad. Aidan tries the same hit and stick but turns it inside. They sweep it hard all the way down and the shooter just grazes the guard, grazing past shot stone, and grazing past the Martin stone in the back of the house. Team Martin steals 2 to win 8-6. Although we started 9 minutes late, we ended the game 6 minutes early. Meanwhile on sheet 2, Elgie was taking his merry time still playing the 7th end when we finished.
Meanwhile in Tuesday action, Team Szabo + ikey + Heather defeats Jason Zebchuk in their 3rd head-to-head match of the season and Team Hirbod (without icky due to the second's return from the disabled list) lost.
