Mens Div B Game 1: Martin vs Shepherd

It was the battle of the B1 and B2 teams tonight, and possibly Team Martin's toughest match of the draw. Last year, Team Levis was 1-1 against them and the same record was garnered two seasons ago by Team Templeton.

End 1: Things started off badly with vice ikey losing the coin toss, but the end shaped up well, leading to a steal of 1.

End 2: Team Shepherd responds with 1.

End 3: Team Martin gets into some trouble. At one point, there were 3 Shepherd stones in the house with one buried and shot. In the end, icky has a shot to raise an opponent stone onto their shot rock to take 3. The angles didn't work out and they lead 2-1.

End 4: With last rock, icky has a chance to hit for 2 on a partially buried rock. Unfortunately, we wreck on the guard and they steal another 1.

End 5: A much better end resulted in icky having a chance to hit and stick for 3. A bad sweep call by icky results in a jam, leaving us with 2 to tie the game.

End 6: They take 1 in the 6th to lead by 1.

End 7: Icky was left with the following set up going into his final rock.

Icky decides to play through the port with board weight for 2 to take a 1 point lead into the last end. He was worried he would promote an opposition stone into the house and give up a steal of 2, which was exactly what happened when his rock over curled. In hindsight, icky didn't take enough ice as the ice started getting a bit more swingy down the centre.

End 8: Down by 3 with hammer, we try to get some offence going but struggle to get rocks positioned well in the house. Dispite a valiant effort, all icky could do with last rock was a hit for 2. We roll out to count 1 and lose 6-4. all and all, a well played game on both ends. A few key missed shots on our side cost us victory, but it was nonetheless a good start. Plus, it really was ikey's fault we didn't win after rejecting lime eating last Saturday.
