Edit: iszy has rejected deviating from tradition for Alex. he suggested ixxy (pronounced as "icksy"), to which i said it looks pornish, and he suggested i3xy (short for ixxxy) to make it even more pornish.

it's also a good start to the season for icky's past and former teammates. team levis (which includes ichy and the two guys from team sawchuk) won their first match in monday mens. team szabo (iszy's tuesday mixed team) also started the season with a 6-3 victory over team wong.

with a new curling season comes new players. in sticking with tradition, they need nicknames.

it all started in season one 3 years ago with me becomimg icky (partly for my icky weight more commonly known as "jason weight"), hin chan becoming iffy (partly for his iffy shots, mitch levis becoming ichy, and bela szabo becoming iszy. we also had on our team joel garten for the first few games who we named icey. ichy's derivation is obvious. iszy's came from the "sz" in szabo. in addition, it also kinda fit with his first name bela - iszy-bela (which sounds a lot like isabella). icey was so named because he was always cold on the ice. we believe he quit because of that.

the next season, no nicknames were assigned to my new mens team, but my mixed team got nicknames. michelle mok became michy, patrick lam became tricky, and meredith noble became chip. mere's name proved difficult to fit into the theme, so we opted for the odd one out concept, like curly, larry and moe. chip came about because it fit with her computer eng background (like microchip). i also got a last name making me icky martin. bhavin came up with it because it was a play off of ricky martin and also works well because there is a well known curler from alberta with the last name martin.

last season saw a reunion of ichy and bela with me and a new player mike schroder who naturally became ikey.

so the new players needing nicknames this season are ada shang and larissa ho for my mixed team and alex hirbod for mens. michy and i have been brainstorming and this is what we have come up with so far.

ALEX HIRBOD: irby, ichabod (ichabod combines his last name and is an indication that he is replacing ichy on the team), iichy (two i's because he's the second ichy)

There is some difficulty in generating nicknames for Larissa Ho and Ada Shang, but some amusing combinations emerged:
hissy (larissa) & fit (ada)
shang (ada) & hai (larissa)
doc & saint (a play off of doc martins and st martin)
lassie (larissa) & laddie (ada)
