Team Martin vs Team Taylor
We faced a hot Team Taylor today, who have won every match since losing their first 4. But Team Martin showed we were ready by winning the quarter toss with heads, and the other team chose the defective stones. We take 1 in the first. In the second, Taylor faced 7 Martin stones in the house, although a Taylor stone was 5th shot or something like that. Taylor misses her shot, but gets lucky and cuts us down to 2. Taylor's misfortunes turn around in end 3. they get a number of rocks in play, 5 to be exact. Icky's attempted final freeze does not curl enough, leaving Taylor an opportunity at a tough little double for 6. She ends up with a jam and 4 for a 4-3 lead. A hit and stick would have gotten us 2 in the next end, and a double would have gotten 3, but being paranoid with a jam, we play too little ice to avoid jamming but lose the shooter. Tied at 4. In end 5, team Taylor puts it together for a deuce. After a great end in the 6th leading to 4 Martin stones in the house and counting 3, Taylor plays a fantastic draw to go 2/5 buried. One shot was to pick theirs out, but it would not be easy since it was partiall buried and the jam was possible. Instead, we decide to play a relatively short double raise takeout for 4. Icky just starts it inside and curls too far. We trail by 3. In the 7th and last, we get a bunch of racks in play. Taylor's first rock gets super lucky. Going for a double they get only one, but rolls in a position that made it impossible to avoid at least a partial jam if we tried to take it out. I tried to rearrange the stones, but had too much ice. Taylor gets lucky again with her last. A hit and stick was wide, but nicked our rock slighty, right behind their rock, making the jam nearly automatic. Team Martin talks it over and decides there may be a very remote chance of squirting the Taylor rock out and scoring 3 by playing up weight on this 1/3 buried rock by hitting as much as can be seen. The delivery was on line and the shot, which I thought was nearly impossible, was almost made, except we didn't hit enough of it to hold the shooter. We take 2 and lost it 7-6.
