Colts Saturday Game 3: Martin vs Thompson

So our match with Aidan didn't pan out. We took on the team who beat them in the third game of the day.

End 1: We struggle in the first end, but an unfortunate miss by Thompson leaves us sitting 2. Icky draws one in to sit 3, but Thompson has a simple hit (or draw with backing) for his 1. He flashes and we steal 3.

End 2: The angles in this end didn't work out. With some near misses, rubs and jams, we end up giving up a big 5.

End 3: Blanked.

End 4: Icky has no shot to score. Thompson's single is locked in and they take a 6-3 lead.

End 5: Facing 2, icky needs full 4-foot for his single and gets it to cut their lead to 2. For the first time, team martin elects to take a 5th end break to regroup.

End 6: We get rolling with a steal after great guarding by our team.

End 7: We finally regain the lead with a steal of 2 after icky draws both behind cover. We lead 7-6.

End 8: With 1 buried, Thompson spends 10 minutes deciding to draw the 4-foot for 1. Icky even went into the lounge to warm up during that time. I didn't expect him to make it but he does to tie.

End 9: We struggle to get a rock buried. They keep spilling rocks in and buried. Icky's last was a draw through the port against 4. He just rubs the rock in the top 12 and rolls far enough to cut them down to 2.

End 10: Sitting 1 on icky's first, icky needs to hit the rings to sit 2. All week, this was icky's most pressure filled shot and he makes it. Thompson negotiates the guard to hit and stick, leaving icky a quiet hit and stick for the deuce and the extra end. Success!

End 11: Good peeling and an unfortunate errant shot due to deteriorating ice from greg leaves us with little to work with. Icky puts on a great corner freeze on a Thompson rock with his first to sit second, with the hope of jiggling it to shot on last rock. Thompson tries to blast it out but picks his own. Now we sit shot. Icky tries to promote his own from the 8-foot to the button in order to force a double by Thompson. A good throw but the flattening ice curls the rock aside. This leaves Thompson an open hit and he makes it. A heartbreaking loss.
