Our first playoff game was against Bruce Taylor. going in, we were 2-1 against them. Tragedy strikes before the game when hai announces she forgot her slider. Fortunately, the others have sliders too. Then icky announces he forgot his most important piece of equipment - gloves. Icky hasn't curled a game without them for nearly 3 seasons. The problem is icky throws with these gloves on and it feels very different to have to go without them. Icky tries to find what he could in the lost and found.
End 1: Without hammer, Team Martin plays a good end until a nice freeze by Team Taylor on the edge of the 12-foot for shot. Throwing without gloves, icky tries to pick the rock out but doesn't make enough contact. Bruce draws in and icky takes it out to sit second. Bruce tries to draw for the deuce but misses. Taylor takes 1.
End 2: Alex Beamish offers her mitts and icky tries them, but is not ble to throw with them. We seomhow take 1.
End 3: Icky wonders if tricky has gloves. Guess what?!?! He had his leather gloves all along but didn't say anything! A good end resulted in a steal of 2. We lead 3-2. The gloves are working fine.
End 4: Taylor has a cold draw to the full 8-foot for 1. They cut the lead to 1.
End 5: Team Martin takes control. Icky draws with backing for 3 to lead 6-2.
End 6: Icky makes a raise takeout on his first. Bruce makes a splendid hit and roll behind cover. Icky plays another raise takeout successfully. Bruce is left with a cold draw which he puts on the teeline. 6-3.
End 7: Two good heavy draws by shang leaves us sitting 2. All icky has was a very wide draw that was too wide and long. Team Martin leads 8-3.
End 8: Another solid end leads to a steal of 1. We take it 9-3. This was one of the best games that my team has played all year. Lead stones were in good position, nice shots by tricky, and a sufficient number of successful hits by shang. And icky was dead on today, making the runbacks, hit and rolls, and draws look easy. He remembers only missing 4 shots all game (two draws that went long), a missed pick, and a through the port shot that crashed (this port was even tinier than the shot icky made last week).
