A rare post from the Friday mixed files... Martin vs Hirbod

The much awaited Martin vs Hirbod (avec iszy) match finally took place in draw 4. The teams have been missing each other during the division changes. The pressure of course was all on Team Martin, as icky was pitted against former men's teammate ix3y and current teammate iszy.

End 1: An open end without hammer. Icky lays down two no pressure draws, with ix3y hitting and rolling out on his first and hitting and sticking on his last to take one.

End 2: Team Hirbod applies all sorts of pressure on icky, who requires a tap to the 4-foot on last rock against two.

The line is good, but icky has to urge his sweepers on to get the weight there. They just make it for the single and a tied game.

End 3: Another simple hitting end with icky again laying down two nice draws. Ix3y did the same thing, hitting and rolling out on his first, but then unable to blank on his last. 2-1 Hirbod leads.

End 4: Some more incredible pressure by the opposition has icky in nervous situation going to his last. Facing four opposition counters, icky's only chance to score was a hit and roll on a barely open rock on a part of the ice that was hard to put the broom down for. Icky knew that giving up a single was going to be a good result.

Icky's release was right on target, as hollers of whoas and hurry hards are yelled in an attempt to negotiate the port. In the end, the rock curls just a bit too much, resulting in a nose hit for second shot. They steal a single and Team Martin avoids disaster.

End 5: Icky is left with a delicate double takeout with control weight to try to hold the shooter for a deuce, with no other shots available. Too little ice leaves the opposition with a single.

End 6: Loads more pressure on Team Martin after the following situation going to icky's first stone. The only option was to play back-line weight through a near impossible port to tap the shot stone back.

It was tight out of icky's hand, but some extraordinary sweeping gets it through. A missed run-back by ix3y leaves the draw for three and a tied game.

End 7: Icky is in some trouble again, facing two near buried opposition rocks. Icky attempts a thin double, which was flirting with flashing the rock as contact was only about 1 cm.

Icky felt the rock was good out of his hand, with much sweeping and then a last second whoa to avoid that flash leads to the double and stick to sit three. Hirbod hits and rolls in 2/3 buried, but icky hits and sticks around. Ix3y's final shot hits and rolls out, leaving Martin with deuce.

End 8: The final end drama was felt with missed peels by Team Martin's third. Nevertheless, the opposition could not put good rocks into the house, leading to a final steal of one and the win!
